Shazam! is an action movie with a flow of fantasy adventure wrapped in comedy. The film is adapted from DC Comics which tells the story of Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a 14-year-old teenager who gets a magic ‘gift’ in the form of the power of being a superhero. When he became a superhero, his figure also changed into an adult (Zachary Levi).
Like other superhero films, viewers will be treated to a lot of violent action fantasy, including some scenes of fighting, the use of weapons, romping, collisions, explosions, even death. Even so, Shazam! perhaps the most children-‘friendly’ film compared to other DC films that already exist.
If your child can already speak English, in this film he will also raise some swear words. Not only that, there is one scene where the main characters go to the strip club aka the erotic dance club. If you decide to invite children to watch, be prepared to accompany and explain it to them, or you can cover their eyes during that scene.
However, quite a lot of positive messages also exist in Shazam! For example, it’s about the meaning of family, gratitude, responsibility, generosity, courage, teamwork, and the importance of defending others to how we should not be selfish.
The main character in this film is also shown not having much money, but rich in unconditional love and support from his foster family.
